The Tsar

Most amazing video I have ever seen. The largest nuclear bomb ever tested. 50-58 Megatons (~58 million tons of TNT). This is equal to 10 times the total amount of explosives used in the Second World War.

It is amazing we were able to create something like this. We have enough explosive power to crack open the crust of the Earth like an egg shell. Probably the next step is a nuclear explosion in space to simulate what kind of damage it can cause.

I am in favour of such tests. Better to know what these weapons are capable of so that people think 100 times before they use it in aggression.

If you have a gun, might as well learn to use it well so that you don't end up shooting yourself in the foot by accident!

Another amazing video... love the last bit. I wish I can see a nuclear explosion in my lifetime (especially the mushroom cloud!). The new Indiana Jones movie (The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) has a scene in which Indy just survives a nuclear explosion and he is shown staring at the mushroom cloud.

J. Robert Oppenheimer the physicist who headed the Manhattan Project (also known as the Father of the Atomic Bomb) is said to have quoted the Bhagvad Gita when he saw the first nuclear explosion.

Oppenheimer later would be persuaded to quote again in 1965 for a television broadcast (from Wikipedia):

“ We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another "

How true he was... except I would like to make two minor modifications to the above quote:

"We are Death, the destroyers of Earth"

And this relates not just to the Nuclear Bomb or other weapons. But to our complete disregard for the environment.

:)
